I noticed the other day that my daughter had chapped lips. So, I asked her if she wanted the calendula ointment that works wonders and she said: “sure”
The next day I noticed her lips were still red but didn’t say anything because she’s a teenager and I only get to notice so many things out loud per week.
The third day I noticed her lips were not much better once again, so I mentioned it casually. She answered that she put the ointment on once daily and it wasn’t really working…
THIS! is where most of us are with self-care.
If you already have visibly chapped lips, if it is winter and dry, and you aren’t super consistent with the lip balm, the healing you need is going to take more time.
In other words, compounding circumstances make healing take longer.
One time daily application of any ointment is going to be too little to catch up with where the body’s need is, once it is past a certain point.
Any healer will tell you – healing depends upon where you are when you start treatment. And it isn’t helpful for you to have the story going in your mind that the treatment isn’t working when you aren’t doing the consistent care that getting better depends upon.
Be patient with processes so you can see what truly works for you.
Be honest about how much care you are actually giving yourself.
Be real about how much work your body has to do everyday just to survive.
Be thoughtful about how good it is for everyone around you if you thrive.
Listen to both your body and the healer you decide to work with. Open trust and communication will help your inflammation levels go down because you won’t feel so alone with your struggle or be over-thinking it.
You deserve to be well and you are worth the time and care it takes to get there
